Many words have two totally different meanings: words like want, or belief.
The religious meaning of the word belief is "I know it's not true but I decide to say it's true." The things people actually know, like what they had for breakfast this morning, they don't believe in, those are obvious and clear. With religious belief, people are "I know it's not true, when I stop to think about it I run into problems so I'm just saying to say it's true really loudly." Belief in this sense handicaps you, it makes you blindly repeat stuff that other people made up and that's likely wrong.
The way we use belief, the core truth of the Shaper circle, is active belief, it's the opposite of religious belief. Shaping, or healing, comes from real belief - if your belief in a thing is stronger than the way the world currently works, the world changes to match your belief. You have to say "I see this, I acknowledge that it's not true ... but I'm going to believe it so strong, that all of the world bends to my will and it becomes true because I belief it." If you can hold it with enough oomph, with enough focus, your belief becomes the reality and whatever was, becomes the lie. The essence of shaping is to say, "I decide this."
